Local loss
I would like to take this opportunity to offer my condolences to the family and friends of Lewis resident Linda Norgrove, who was killed in Afghanistan today. Linda, aged 36, grew up in Mangersta, in the Uig district of Lewis. When I called into the shop at Timsgarry (Uig) this afternoon, I was told of the news, which had not reached me until then. The newsmedia were buzzing around the place, which must have made a painful loss that little bit more hard to come to terms with. The identity of the captive had not previously been released, although local news media in this island did intimate that she was from Lewis.

May she rest in eternal peace. Amen.
ReplyDeleteSo sad for her and her family. My thoughts are with them.Sadly when working for N.G.O's the chance of being taken hostage and being killed is a risk we all take. I say we, because in the early 90's I went twice with "pharmiciens sans frontiers " to the war torn balkans. Very, very scary.,but so reawarding. after the second trip I realised the strain I was putting on my husband and the two kids, but as I say, I was happy to have done what I could, however little. R.I.P brave girl
ReplyDeleteAwful tragedy and the presence of rolling news cameras must make things even more sureal for the family. They did the same in South Dell where one of the victims of 09/11 lived. If prayer will help the family then I'm sure they have a lot of support.
