Delivery charges petition

The Prime Minister's Office has replied to the ePetition on the 10 Downing Street website, related to delivery charges to the Highlands and Islands. I first reported on this on 8 January. The reply basically says that the Government will not take any action against carriers who appear to discriminate against residents of remote areas by charging more for delivery. In fact, that practice is virtually condoned in the reply. However, people are recommended to shop around and pay close attention to T&C's on websites. Full reply can be read here.

  1. I got a reply too, AL. Are we surprised at the outcome?

  2. No, Jill. And I dread the day that the Post Office is privatised.

Typical Politician. Are there any to respect anymore. They are on a par with second hand car salesmen and thats doing the salesmen a disservice. They are the same all over.
They promise the world till after an election.

  4. Harryd, politicians are like tomcats in March. Caterwhauling their everlasting fielty until the evil deed is done. Then they disappear without trace.

  5. Thought the reply was common sense really as always important to shop around, read the terms and if need be, make complaint/seek re-dress if additional/unauthorised charges appear. Considering the distances involved and rapid deliveries we can get, I am always quite pleasantly surprised when I can get stuff online and delivered very quickly at reasonable cost.

  6. In Millport mostly have to get things delivered to Largs, then the "island Courier " will bring it over -at a price! So far we've coped ourselves, but I suspect as our renovations progress, and we have to get bulkier items delivered, we will have to go down this route. It's OK to say "shop around" but many companies won't deliver to the islands full stop, charge a hefty premium, or won't specify a delivery date-not much use if you are not resident on the island full time. When you shop around, you really want to be looking at who will sell you the item cheapest, not factor in whether they will deliver it at all!
