New pyramid

This is the new pyramid, with an angle of 58 degrees, which stands at the corner of Cromwell Street and North Beach Street in Stornoway. It has a circular seating area around it. Picture was taken at around 3pm last Friday, when it was already getting dark.

  1. "It looks better than the old one, eh? The blue lights are good. But what does the writing on it say? Thanks for photo, AL. "

"Looks like a sundial but is it a sundial? "
    Barney from Swithiod a sun-dial?

"Would love to know what this cost. I.E. final figure design, supply, erect. Freedom of Information Question coming on?"
    Observer from Laxdale

"Forge me Arnish, but I am rather puzzled (NOT intending to be critical): the design is fine, except for what appears to be white planking/veneer at the 58 degree angle. The color somehow does not "fit". Is there something I am missing? Genuinely curious."

"The planking at the back of the triangle is a seating area. What you see at the 58 degree angle is slightly differently coloured paving. I can't seem to find anything about cost, but that may have been published a year ago, when this design was decided upon. "

"is the pyramid connected with weird theories about UFOs and Callanish or as a last resting place for English Landlords?"
    curious from england

"Barney, it sure does look like a sun dial. 58 degress should be the height of the sun on the vernal and autumnal equinoxes"
    CVBruce from CA, USA

"Correction, CVBruce, hope you don't mind. 58 degrees (north) is the latitude of Stornoway. On the equinox, the sun rises 32 degrees above the horizon; currently (December) only 8 degrees. "

""... or as a last resting place for English Landlords? curious from england." That's a thought. One worth mulling over. [Is there a trap door somewhere, Arnish? ... to get to the crypt, I mean]. "
